New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) The cabinet committee on parliamentary affairs (CCPA) Friday recommended early conclusion of the budget session of parliament by March 25 — almost a month ahead of the original schedule — in view of the forthcoming assembly elections in five states.
In a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the CCPA decided to cut short the session, which was earlier supposed to end April 21, in view of assembly elections in five states starting April 4, an official source said.
The source added that the recommendation will now be presented to the business advisory committee of parliament.
Assembly polls in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry will be held between April 4 and May 10. The results will be declared May 13.
As per the original schedule, the first phase of the budget session was to end March 16. The second phase was to be held between April 4 and 21.
