Panchayats do not have enough powers
August 12th, 2011 - 6:58 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) The functioning of Panchayats is hampered due to inadequate devolution of powers, parliament was informed Friday.
Panchayati Raj Minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo told the Lok Sabha that despite constitutional stipulations, the panchayats were hit due to lack of functions, funds and functionaries — or 3Fs.
“Capacities of the Panchayats as well as Gram Sabhas need to be strengthened considerably in terms of infrastructure, manpower, etc,” the minister said in a statement.
