Palestine city names street after Medvedev
January 21st, 2012 - 9:48 am ICT by IANSMoscow, Jan 21 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A street in the Palestinian city of Jericho has been named after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said.
“Residents of Jericho decided to give your name to one of the main streets,” Abbas told the Russian president during a meeting at Medvedev’s residence near Moscow.
Medvedev, who was in the West Bank oasis city of Jericho in January last year, said this demonstrated strong friendship between the Russians and Palestinians.
“Thank you, I am touched. I view this act as a symbol of Russian-Palestinian friendship, which counts its history not in decades but in centuries,” Medvedev said.
