Pakistani lawyers to go on strike Jan 28
January 24th, 2010 - 7:24 pm ICT by IANSLahore, Jan 24 (IANS) Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has decided to go on strike Jan 28 to protest over non-appointment of high court judges, a media report said Sunday.
Talking to reporters after the Lawyers Coordination Committee here, SCBA president Qazi Anwar said the constitution has been violated by not appointing high court judges, Geo TV reported.
There are vacancies of judges lying unfilled at all four high courts, Anwar said, adding that the cases against President Asif Ali Zardari should start.
The SCBA president demanded the government to live up to its constitutional responsibilities by acting upon the recommendations of the chief justice of Pakistan.
He said: “We are opposed to military interference and confrontation among institutions.”
