Pakistan, Sri Lanka to enhance defence cooperation

Islamabad, Jan 19 (Xinhua) Pakistan and Sri Lanka will enhance defence cooperation, including military training and intelligence sharing, officials said after a meeting of the representatives of the two countries Monday.The defence secretaries of the two countries discussed various cooperations during a meeting at the garrison city of Rawalpindi, the official Associated Press of Pakistan said.

The meeting emphasised the need for developing military to military cooperation at all levels, the report said.

Pakistan’s defence secretary Syed Athar Ali told his Sri Lankan counterpart Gotabhaya Rajapakse that there existed a wide scope of cooperation between the two sides that needs to be further enhanced for mutual benefit.

The visiting Sri Lankan official also stressed the need for closer interaction between the armed forces of the two countries.
