Opposition seeks Chouhan’s resignation, assembly adjourned
November 23rd, 2010 - 6:13 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, Nov 23 (IANS) The Madhya Pradesh assembly was adjourned Tuesday, as opposition disrupted proceedings to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for corruption.
As the house met on the second day of its winter session, Congress members said many corruption cases against the chief minister were pending with the state Lokayukta (ombudsman).
“Corruption charges are pending against the chief minister for four years and he is misusing his power. He should resign first and let the department function freely,” said acting Leader of Opposition Chaudhary Rakesh Singh.
Demanding that Chouhan should resign like all other chief ministers who stepped down from their posts after facing such charges, Singh claimed that besides the chief minister, the cabinet also had many tainted ministers.
As the disruptions continued, the speaker adjourned the assembly for the day.
Dismissing the charges, Chouhan said: “There is a race in the Congress to become leader of opposition so they are putting charges on me. Whoever would score more would be made leader of opposition by the Congress”.
