Opposition creates ruckus in Himachal assembly

Bharatiya Janata Party Dharamsala, Dec 20 (IANS) Pandemonium prevailed in the Himachal Pradesh assembly as the Congress members protested the speaker’s decision not to allow their two adjournment motions.

In its two motions, the Congress sought suspension of the scheduled question hour to discuss issues that it said were of public importance - the alleged irregularities committed by the two ministers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently concluded Renuka bypoll, and the other involving a BJP woman leader in a high-profile recruitment scam.

As the house assembled in the morning, Leader of Opposition Vidya Stokes stood up and tried to convince Speaker Tulsi Ram about urgency of the adjournment motions and need to suspend the question hour.

However, the speaker declined the requests.

Not convinced with the speaker’s replies, the Congress legislators rushed towards his podium and raised slogans.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravinder Ravi reiterated the speaker’s stand and said the rules did not permit the adjournment motions to be allowed.

The assembly proceedings, however, continued in the midst of ruckus.

The five-day winter session of the state assembly began here Monday.
