Only Congress can deal with nation’s challenges: PM

May 3rd, 2009 - 10:30 pm ICT by IANS

Manmohan Singh New Delhi, May 3 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday said only the Congress could deal with the challenges facing the country and parties playing divisive politics cannot deliver progress.
Addressing a public meeting here three days ahead of polling in the national capital, the prime minister said the country was up against “big challenges” and his party should be given another chance to complete its unfinished works.

“Parties who base their politics on religion and caste cannot take the country forward,” he said without naming any party, and added that people should keep such forces at bay.

He took a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani for raising the issue of black money stashed away in Swiss and other foreign banks and called it an election stunt.

Manmohan Singh said the BJP either “had no understanding” of economic issues or was “deliberately misleading” people on the issue. He dismissed the allegations that his government had not done anything about the issue.
