One killed, five injured in Trinamool-CPI-M clashes
November 26th, 2009 - 2:48 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Kolkata, Nov 26 (IANS) One man was killed and five others, including a police officer, suffered bullet injuries as activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Trinamool Congress clashed in several villages in West Bengal’s Hooghly district Thursday, police said.
The clashes broke out in Majhpur, Bardighrui and Chandrabhan villages, said an official at the state police control room here.
When a large police team reached the spot it was met with a hail of bullets, one of which hit Khanakul police station officer-in-charge Sukomal Das, the official said.
Four political workers have been injured. The condition of three of them is said to be serious.
The police officer and the three seriously injured activists have been brought to Kolkata for treatment.
Police said the situation was tense but under control.
Trinamool Congress claimed that all the victims, including the deceased Ananta Dolui, belonged to their party.
But there was no confirmation from police about the political affiliation of the victims.
The state has witnessed a spate of political killings and clashes since the April-May Lok Sabha polls as the ruling CPI-M and the opposition Trinamool Congress fought for political turf.
