Washington, Dec.11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Democrats on Sunday have approved the omnibus bill of $447 billion that would fund the expenses of several government agencies in the fiscal year of 2010. Though the bill has been approved by the House, it did not get any support from the Republicans who were worried for the increased spending of the government agencies. Not only the Republicans but also as many as 28 Democrats were against the bill.
According to the reports, the bill that got passed in spite of oppositions, comprised of several government bills and financial services. Bill for Commerce-Justice-State, bill for transportation-HUD, bill for Labor-HHS-Education, bill for State-foreign operations and bill for military construction-veteran affairs will be funded from the omnibus spending bill that has been sanctioned from the House yesterday. Though the bill has received House’ s approval, Senate’s acceptance of the bill will only make it a law.
As the bill has faced severe criticism from the Republicans and has also not won the support of few Democrats, the advocates of the bill backed it with several causes. According to the House Democrats, their package would benefit the economic condition of the country and provide people some relief from the effects of recession. It has come to the news that local and state law enforcement bodies will receive a grant of $3.7 billion, high speed rail projects will receive a sum of $2.5 billion and community health centers will receive $2.2 billion from the $447 billion omnibus spending bill. Though the supporters of the bill have tried to justify the spending, people who opposed the bill considered it to as misuse of money in this economic situation.
