Omar Abdullah reviews security ahead of PM’s visit

Srinagar, June 6 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sunday reviewed the security scenario and law and order situation in the state ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit Monday.
Chairing the unified command meeting here, Abdullah reiterated his government’s commitment to zero tolerance against human rights violations.
“The violators of human rights will not be allowed to go scot-free,” he asserted.
The meeting also took appraisal of Machil incident, Amarnath Yatra arrangements, human rights issues and maintenance of law and order in the state.
The army authorities assured full cooperation with the police investigation in the Machil incident, in which three Kashmiri young men were killed as infiltrators in allegedly staged gun battle on the Line of Control (LOC).
Matters pertaining to the rehabilitation policy for youth who have crossed the Line of Control (LoC) but had not indulged in violence and intended to return to the state to resume a normal life were also discussed.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, the army’s Northern Command chief Lt. Gen. B.S.Jaswal, XIV corps commander Lt. Gen. S.K.Singh, XV Corps commander Lt.Gen. N.C. Marwah, XVI Corps commander Lt. Gen. Rameshwar Rao, IX Corps commander Lt. Gen.D.S. Thakur, Chief Secretary S.S. Kapur, Financial Commissioner (Home) Samuel Verghese, Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda, and other senior officials from police, paramilitary forces and the administration.
