Old applications cleared by Kerala chief ministerApril 10th, 2008 - 8:53 pm ICT by admin
Thiruvananthapuram, April 10 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan cleared a large number of applications for assistance from the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) two years after they were received by his predecessor Oomen Chandy of the Congress. Achuthanandan took over from Chandy May 18, 2006.
He ordered in August that year that no money should be released from the fund for the applications cleared by Chandy.
“There were around 52,000 pending applications from various people seeking financial aid from Rs.1,000 and upwards,” Chandy told reporters Thursday.
“But, Achuthanandan March 28 this year issued an order that money be paid to all the applicants cleared by me. I wish to know why was Achuthanandan saying all this time that the applications which I cleared were done to favour people,” asked Chandy.
“If I had violated the norms, I wish to know why did he give orders to clear all the pending applications,” said Chandy.
