Obama showers praise on Manmohan Singh

Manmohan Singh New Delhi, Nov 8 (IANS) US President Barack Obama Monday showered praise on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying his country and India were working together to build a global partnership in the new century.

Speaking at a banquet hosted in his honour by President Pratibha Patil on the lawns of Rashtrapati Bhavan here, Obama praised Manmohan Singh, with whom he shares a special relationship.

Turning to the prime minister, Obama lauded the spirit with which he had led his life.

He said that the prime minister had led his life on the principles of truth, compassion and love.

In his brief speech, Obama said he had learnt several things from his trip.

“Despite the geographic distance, the two countries were closer than before,” he said.

Obama said that like many others before him, he had felt that “you do not visit India, you experience it” because of the diversity, optimism and warmth of its people.
