NYC Mayor Bloomberg to preside over gay wedding
July 8th, 2011 - 8:05 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, July 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will officiate a gay marriage which will take place on the 24th of July. The marriage will be between two New York City officials.
24th of July is significant because it marks the first day that same sex marriage becomes official in the city of New York. Bloomberg is a staunch supporter of same sex marriages. The highly famous mayor has in the past officiated in two same sex marriages since he became the most important man in New York City in 2002.
Bloomberg released a statement on the marriage between consumer affairs manager of the city Jonathan Mintz and Gracie Mansion. The event will be held in Manhattan and in the statement, Bloomberg said that, “John and Jonathan have each done so much to make the City a better place, and together, they helped me see the issue of marriage equality in very clear terms. This will be one of the biggest days of their lives, a day they’ve waited a long time to see, and I’m just honored to be a part of it.”
Same sex became legal in the whole of New York state when Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Marriage Equality Act into law. New York by the action of the governor became the sixth state in the United States to recognize same-sex couples.
