NSA against Varun unjustified: V.C. ShuklaApril 4th, 2009 - 11:41 pm ICT by IANS
Raipur, April 4 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi’s detention under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) for his hate speeches was unjustified, veteran Congress leader V.C. Shukla said Saturday.
“It’s my personal view that slapping NSA against Varun Gandhi by the Mayawati government is unjustified,” the nine-time MP said at a press conference at the Congress state headquarters here in reply to a query.
The Uttar Pradesh government Sunday invoked the NSA against Varun Gandhi, the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Pilibhit, for his hate speeches and the mob violence that erupted during his arrest the previous day.
Shukla, 80, has been with several parties and rejoined the Congress for the fourth time in late 2007.
He said the Congress would win at least six of Chhattisgarh’s 11 Lok Sabha seats that go to polls April 16.
