Kolkata, March 17 (IANS) West Bengal Pradesh Congress president Manas Bhuniya Thursday reiterated his faith on forging a “strong alliance” with the Trinamool Congress for the upcoming state assembly polls, and said there was nothing to worry if the alliance procedure takes a few more days.
“There is nothing to worry if it takes a few more days for the formation of the alliance, actually as we are two separate parties. When we sit for talks we have to discuss various issues and many other things also come to the forefront during discussions,” said Bhuniya while addressing media persons after completing his meeting with the district presidents of the state Congress.
“It is not at all an issue to worry about if it takes a few more hours or a few more days to formalise. The people of Bengal want an alliance, we also want an alliance with them,” said Bhuniya.
Earlier this week, talks between senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee were inconclusive as both could not reach an agreement on seat-sharing for the April-May assembly elections in West Bengal.
Trinamool Congress sources said Banerjee will wait for 24 hours more, and if the Congress high command does not give a positive signal to forge the alliance, then Banerjee will announce the list of candidates of her party, leaving 62-65 seats for the Congress.
Six-phase polls will be held in West Bengal from April 18-May 10.
