Copenhagen, Dec 18 (DPA) US President Barack Obama was Friday rushing between meetings on the final day of the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen, but if he sits down for a television interview, then it will be on a legendary Danish model known as The Chair.
According to the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende, Obama aides contacted a firm which makes the chair with a request for two of them in a provisional television studio at the climate conference.
The Chair was designed 1949 by Danish architect and cabinet-maker Hans J. Wegner, who died in 2007 at 92. It won fame after two of them were used by US presidential candidates John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon during one of their televised debates 1960.
Wegner’s designs won numerous awards including the 1951 Lunning Prize and the 1951 Grand Prix of the Milan Triennale to the 1957 International Design Award in New York. In 1997 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by The Royal College of Art in London.
