North Korea Attacks South Korea, USA Cries Foul

Nov 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In an incident that has sent shock waves in the international circles, neighboring North Korea and South Korea were found engaged in exchange of artillery fire which took the lives of two south Koreans. The fiasco started when North Korea asked its neighboring country to halt a military drill conducted by it that was in progress. When South Korea did not pay heed North Korea attacked the Yeonpyeong island with its weapons resulting in the deaths. South Korea also retaliated. It has been reported that three soldiers and 16 residents of South Korea have received injury in the firing. Whether there was any casualty on the North Korean side is not yet known.
The attack and counter attacks lasted almost for an hour. As expected USA which is an ally of South Korea vehemently criticized the actions of North Korea in this context. Robert Gibbs the White House Press Secretary called it belligerent action. He also added that the USA is committed to its role of protecting South Korea from external attacks like this. The government in South Korea started evacuating the residents of the island. The evacuated lot are panicked and some of them fled the island with their kids without caring for their belongings.
The troops of South Korea have been put on high alert after the offensive by North Korea. Ban Ki-moon the U.N. Secretary-General said the incident was among the “gravest incidents” since the Korean War came to an end. South Korea has sounded a warning that it would hot back if North Korea dares to attack its territory again.
