No sound, so West Bengal assembly adjourned for 10 days
December 1st, 2009 - 2:35 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Kolkata, Dec 1 (IANS) The winter session of the West Bengal assembly was adjourned for 10 days Tuesday due to a faulty sound system.
Speaker H.A. Halim adjourned the house up to Dec 9, soon after the second day’s proceedings of the session began, following complaints from members that nothing was audible to them.
The house will meet again on Dec 10.
State Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Kshiti Goswami later told reporters that there was a problem in operating the sophisticated sound system installed recently.
“It will be easier to repair the defect if the assembly is not in session. But the speaker used his discretion to adjourn it for 10 days. I did not know who he consulted before taking the decision. He did not consult my department,” Goswami said.
