‘No party in West Bengal has demanded early polls’
December 2nd, 2010 - 12:02 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Dec 1 (IANS) Deputy Chief Election Commissioner Vinod Zutsi Wednesday said no political party in West Bengal has demanded preponing the state assembly polls slated for next year.
“I have met all major political parties. But none of them have demanded early polls,” Zutsi told reporters after a meeting with 12 district magistrates of the southern part of the state.
He said the Election Commission has received complaints from political parties about the inclusion of false names in the voters’ list and fake electoral identity cards.
He said the commission has taken note of the allegations and 87 FIRs have already been lodged against 290 people. “I have asked the officials to take serious action,” he said.
Zutsi said the final electoral rolls will be published Jan 5, 2011.
