No new cars, business class travel for Haryana officials

Chandigarh, June 9 (IANS) The Haryana government Thursday announced that austerity measures, including total ban on purchase of new cars and business class travel on domestic routes for officers, will be imposed till March 31 next year.

A spokesman of the finance department said that these measures have been taken to cut down on expenses of the state government and the departments under it.

The austerity measures include total ban on purchase of new cars, except replacements, and also on upgradation of new posts, he said.

“Creation of new posts would be allowed only under exceptional circumstances by the finance department. Posts lying vacant for more than two years would be filled up only after the approval of finance department,” he said.

There would be no business class domestic air travel for any category of officers, he said.

“For the year 2011-12, every department would effect mandatory five percent cut in non-plan expenditure under the object heads like domestic and foreign travel expenses, publications, professional services, advertising and publicity, office expenses, petrol, oil and lubricants (POL), except for security related requirements, and other administrative expenses,” he said.

These measures would be reviewed after March 31, 2012, he added.
