No link between Ayodhya verdict, Babri demolition: BJP

New Delhi, Oct 5 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday said there was no need to link the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya dispute to the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.
“At this stage, it’s a verdict of the high court and we respect it. There is no need to link it to the Babri demolition, there is a separate case about it,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said while reacting to the Congress’ assessment that the Sep 30 ruling did not in any way condone the demolition of the masjid.
Congress spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi earlier said it was important to note that the Allahabad High Court decision, favouring a temple at the site where the Babri Masid once stood, “in no way condones the shameful and criminal act” of bringing down the mosque in 1992.
“Perpetrators (of the mosque demolition) should be brought to justice,” the spokesperson said in his briefing about the Congress Steering Committee meeting. The meeting was chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi and attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, among others.
The Allahabad High Court divided the disputed site between two Hindu litigants and the Sunni Wakf Board. It also said that the Babri Masjid was built on the birthplace of Lord Ram.
