No change in condition of Dalits under Mayawati: Uma Bharti

Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh), July 5 (IANS) Accusing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of depriving Dalits and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) of their rights, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti said here Tuesday that their condition remained unchanged under her rule.
“It is only for votes that the BSP approaches Dalits and OBCs. Once their mission to acquire power is accomplished, the party tends to forget those people who had voted it to power,” Uma Bharti told reporters in this Uttar Pradesh district.
“The Mayawati government merely projects itself as a custodian of Dalits’ rights. However, when it comes to raise the issues and problems affecting them, the government adopts a casual approach and fails to take concrete measures to serve them,” she added.
Hitting out at Mayawati over “deteriorating law and order” in the state, Uma Bharti said: “Be it the killing taking place inside a police station or the murders of chief medical officers, it appears lawlessness is all pervasive in the state. Even as the situation is turning from bad to worse every passing day, the government claims that everything is alright on the law and order front.”
“People of Uttar Pradesh are now fed up of the Mayawati government and would surely give it a strong message in the upcoming state assembly elections,” she added.
