No birthday celebration for Naveen Patnaik
October 13th, 2011 - 9:37 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Oct 13 (IANS) There will be no official celebration of Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s 66th birthday Sunday in view of the recent floods in the state, an official said Thursday.
Every year, a large number of people throng Naveen Nivas, the official residence of the chief minister, to greet him on his birthday Oct 16.
This year, the chief minister has requested the people to refrain from the practice, the official at Patnaik’s office told IANS.
Two rounds of floods have disrupted lives of 5.6 million people in 21 of the state’s 30 districts last month, killing at least 83 people.
Thousands of the victims continue to live in make-shift shelters and on roads and embankments.
