Patna, July 22 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Sunday congratulated Pranab Mukherjee on his election as India’s 13th president and invited him to visit the state.
“I have congratulated Pranab Mukherjee and invited him to visit Bihar soon,” he told media persons here.
Nitish Kumar recalled that early this month he had requested Mukherjee to visit Bihar first after getting elected as the president, noting that Bihar was the land of India’s first president.
His party, Janata Dal-United (JD-U) had differed from its National Democratic Alliance ally, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in supporting Mukherjee.
JD-U leaders and workers here celebrated Mukherjee’s victory. Sweets were distributed in the JD-U’s office here by the party workers in the presence of state president Vashisht Narain Singh and other senior party leaders.
On the other hand, the BJP office here wore a deserted look with party leaders and workers away.
