Nine sentenced in fodder scam case
November 30th, 2010 - 10:54 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Nov 30 (IANS) A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here Tuesday sentenced nine more men convicted for the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.20 crore from the state treasury to purchase fodder for public distribution, a CBI statement said Tuesday.
The sentences range from three to six years in jail and fines of Rs.10,000 to Rs.10 lakh.
With Tuesday’s judgment the total number of convicts sentenced in the case reached 17.
Special CBI Judge A.H. Ansari Monday convicted 52 people in the case related to illegal withdrawal of Rs.20 crore from the Doranda treasury in Ranchi. The court sentenced eight convicts on the same day.
The multi-million rupee scam, popularly known as the fodder scam, surfaced in 1996 at the time of undivided Bihar.
As many as 61 cases related to the scam were transferred to Jharkhand after it was carved out of Bihar in November 2000. Special CBI courts have passed judgments in 32 cases.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra have been named as accused in five cases.
