NHRC, NCW should take note of atrocities, says Ramdev
June 6th, 2011 - 2:26 pm ICT by IANSHardwar, June 6 (IANS) Yoga guru Baba Ramdev Monday said the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) should take note of the “atrocities” on people who had assembled at Ramlila ground in Delhi to support him.
Thanking the Supreme Court for its notice to the central and Delhi governments, Ramdev said his supporters were planning to move NHRC and NCW over the incidents of Saturday midnight in which “atrocities were committed against women and children”.
“The cognisance taken by Supreme Court on its own against this injustice, we thank (it) from our hearts. The entire country is grateful,” Ramdev said addressing reporters here.
He said there was an atmosphere of distrust in the country and faith in the judiciary was vital for stability of democracy.
Ramdev, who was evicted from Delhi and is now back in his ashram in Hardwar, said his supporters and participants in the fast against corruption were beaten by police even though they were protesting peacefully.
“If (Mahatma) Gandhi was alive, he would have cried,” Ramdev said.
Justifying his jumping into a crowd of women supporters to escape police, Ramdev said he preferred to adopt the survival tactics of warrior king Shivaji.
“It was not a signal of weakness. A woman gives birth to a man and her status is superior,” Ramdev said.
Asked about the support to his campaign, Ramdev said it had the support of “all social and political organisations” and political parties except the Congress.
He said spiritual leaders, including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Morari Bapu, had lent support.
