New York, Jan 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Newt Gingrich showed his dark side when he was questioned on his ‘open marriage’ stand with his second wife. Newt felt that the media and the public had no right to interfere in his personal life at all and they ought to be focusing more on the relevant political issues at hand, rather than on the status of his marriage.

“The destructive, vicious, negative nature of much of the news media makes it harder to govern this country, harder to attract decent people to run for public office. I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate with a topic like that,” Newt said.

His tough response on the issue was welcomed by the public and there was applause from the audience.

The issue of the ‘open marriage’ came into being because Newt’s second wife Marianne Gingrich said in an interview that Newt had asked her for an ‘open marriage’ when his affair with his current wife Callista came into light. Needless to say, their marriage crumbled soon after that.

During the much-awaited debate, Newt said that, “Every person in here knows personal pain”.
