New York Governor David Paterson Is Fined $62,125 For Acknowledging 5 Gratis Tickets From New York Yankees
December 21st, 2010 - 8:59 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkThe Commission on Public Integrity of the New York State in America has voiced on Monday that it has inflicted an economic penalty worth $62,125 on the State’s Governor, David Paterson, as he had solicited and embraced five gratis tickets from the New York Yankees. The Commission has declared that the Governor infringed the Public Officers’ law, when he acknowledged five free tickets to the first contest of the 2009 World Series for himself, his two assistants and for his son and son’s chum. Tickets to the Yankees’ contests can be quite pricey as their contests are watched by a colossal number of Americans, with the cost running into thousands of dollars.
Paterson stated under oath in February this year that he had always intended to fork out cash for the tickets obtained. He claimed that he had even inscribed and signed a check that he carried to the contest. But these arguments did not sway the Commission, the chairperson of which, Michael Chercasky, asserted that the righteous tone of any institution is established at the top. The chairperson lambasted the Governor and referred to him as a public figure, who set a wholly improper tone by this unbecoming and disingenuous demeanor. Such demeanor is inexcusable and more so if the perpetrator is a functionary of the New York State, which Paterson is.
The Commission has vocalized that Paterson’s testimony has been repudiated by his workforce, the Yankees, a self-governing handwriting specialist and by commonsensicality.
The Commission has articulated that the Yankees have miscellaneous ongoing commercial interests that are linked to the New York State’s administration such as the ones associated with tax issues, erection of stadia and realty.
Paterson occupied the State’s Governorship subsequent to the humiliating resignation of the former Governor, Eliot Spitzer, who was implicated in a prostitution disgrace. Paterson’s Governorship will conclude on January 1 in the succeeding year and he will be substituted by the Democratic Andrew Cuomo, who was elected in November.
