New York Feb 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The governor of New York, David Paterson, will not seek re election this year. Although he has not yet confirmed this news, nor made any announcement to verify, an anonymous Democratic official gave the information. The official cannot speak about this publically until Gov Paterson himself makes the announcement.

What this means is that the seat will likely remain in the hands of the Democrats, and leave the field wide open for Attorney General Cuomo, the son of former NY governor Mario Cuomo, to run. AG (Andrew) Cuomo can now investigate the scandal which involved Gov David Patterson without any accusations of impropriety. Otherwise, he could have been accused of working to undermine Gov Paterson, even if he had not handled the investigation himself.

The current governor has been deeply involved in a scandal which involves his former top aide. The aide was said to have been accused of domestic abuse and was supposed to appear in court. Gov Paterson allegedly ended the case by convincing the victim of the alleged domestic abuse to not show up in court, and the case was dropped.

This announcement is reportedly no surprise to the Democrats as they have expected it for some time.
