New York Governor Charged With Obtaining Free Yankees Tickets

newNew York, Mar 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Governor of New York State, David Paterson, has had another brush with the law that may be costing hims his seat, specially considering that it was only a few days back that he had been charge with yet another heinous crime. The last time, he had been charged with domestic abuse. This time, he has been accused of getting free tickets for his son, and also a friend. According to the report that has been filed by the New York State Public Integrity Commission, the governor had obtained free Yankees tickets to the 2009 World Series games. It is believed that he further testified falsely that he would be paying for the tickets.

The New York State Public Integrity Commission has slapped the charges of violation of state ethics on the Governor. If found guilty of the crime, Governor David Paterson might have to cough up a fine of about $90,000 to $100,000. However, the penalties might not end there, as he might have to give up the post of the Governor altogether. Andrew Cuomo, the State Attorney General of the Albany County District, has been entrusted with the investigations into the case.

It is being deemed that if he is found guilty, Governor David Paterson would be charged a fine of $80,000, that is the stipulated amount for violation of the state gift ban that is implemented on state elected officials. A further $10,000 or $20,000 might be imposed on him for having solicited unwarranted privilege using the influence of his position. The crime amounts to accepting bribes. The Governor himself has not yet commented on the matter.
