Kolkata, April 29 (IANS) The first meeting of the new politburo of the Communist Part of India-Marxist (CPI-M), formed at the 19th party congress in Coimbatore, was held here Tuesday. “It was the first meeting of the new politburo. The main issue of the meeting was price rise. We have planed our future moves on this issue,” politburo general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters after the meeting.
“The politburo’s role in forthcoming elections in states like Karnataka and panchayat elections starting from May 11 in West Bengal has been discussed too,” he said.
“We also focussed on organisational issues, including distribution of responsibilities among the new members of the politburo and formation of new committees,” Karat added.
Veteran CPI-M leader and former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu was felicitated at the meeting.
Asked if Basu had raised the issue of inclusion of Transport, Sports and Youth Services Minister Subhas Chakraborty in the party committee and the state secretariat, Karat said: “There was no scope to discuss this issue in the meeting”.
