Netizens hail Suu Kyi’s release

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS) Social networking sites were abuzz with congratulatory messages as Myanmar’s iconic pro-democracy leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi was released Saturday in Yangon.
Suu Kyi’s Facebook page, with 2.5 lakh followers worldwide, saw thousands of users terming Saturday as “best day for Myanmar”. Many said they were ecstatic, and “had tears in their eyes”.
“Godspeed, Aung San Suu Kyi. May she take her rightful place as head of a democratic Burma and bring some justice to her people,” a post by Fred Temple said.
“I was crying with tears of joys as soon as I heard and read about the freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi. Can’t find words to say how I am very happy now. Thanks for your support to her and your comments,” commented Kyaw Win Khine from Seoul, Korea.
“Aung San Suu Kyi gets freedom after fifteen years of house years. The world community salutes you and a salute from the residents of India to youÂ… free Myanmar from this junta Government. Democracy is Unstoppable,” Qazi F. Hasan posted.
Hundreds of Facebook posts said Suu Kyi’s release heralded the onset of democracy in the south east Asian nation.
The sentiment was echoed on other sites like Twitter and Orkut.
“Time for the Burmese regime to release all political prisoners, not just one,” tweeted Jon Hutson.
“I wish the very best for the Burmese People. May you, Suu Kyi, be strong and determined to pursue your peaceful fight for liberty and freedomÂ… The world wins today and you are a symbol of democracy,” Andrea Walter, from Australia, posted on her Orkut account.
