NDA to protest price rise with countrywide strikeApril 22nd, 2008 - 10:52 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, April 22 (IANS) The main opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form a human chain around the parliament building and observe a countrywide strike next month to protest against rising prices of essential commodities. “We have decided to form a human chain around the main building of Parliament House and organise a countrywide strike on May 2,” BJP’s parliamentary party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra told reporters Tuesday after Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani held a meeting with other NDA leaders in his parliamentary office to discuss the protest programme.
Asked which parties are participating in the strike and whether the BJP-ruled states will also have shutdown, Malhotra said, “These are details which are yet to be worked out.”
“Since May 1, 2 and 3 are national holidays and parliament is closed, we have asked the MPs to go to their respective constituencies to organise the strike.”
The annual rate of inflation has hovered above the 7 percent level in recent weeks, indicating a hike in prices of food grain and other essentials commodities.
