N.D. Tiwari makes quiet exit
December 27th, 2009 - 10:02 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Hyderabad, Dec 27 (IANS) A day after resigning as Andhra Pradesh governor in the wake of a sex scandal he was allegedly involved in, N.D. Tiwari quietly left Hyderabad Sunday.
Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and Chief Secretary Ramakanth Reddy drove to Raj Bhavan to call on Tiwari before he left for New Delhi.
Sources in Raj Bhavan said there was no formal farewell usually given to an outgoing governor. The media was also not invited for the customary meet the chief minister had with Tiwari.
The 86-year-old leader had resigned Saturday citing health reasons. The resignation came a day after a Telugu television channel showed pictures of a man purported to be Tiwari in a compromising position with three women.
Though Raj Bhavan got a stay order from the High Court on the telecast of the pictures and it claimed that the pictures were fabricated, the allegations embarrassed the Congress party at the centre and pressure mounted on Tiwari to quit.
The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand was appointed governor in August 2007.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan will take additional charge of Andhra Pradesh Monday.
Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court A.R. Dave will administer the oath to Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan.
