NCP wants PM out of Lokpal
December 27th, 2011 - 6:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 27 (IANS) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), an ally of the Congress-led ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Tuesday said it wants the prime minister kept out of the anti-graft Lokpal’s ambit.
“We agree with the Shiv Sena. We don’t want the prime minister to be accountable to anybody. I am very proud of the leader of our country,” Supriya Sule of the NCP said in the Lok Sabha, speaking on the bill for setting up of an all-powerful ombudsman to deal with corruption in India.
She said the government has shown “complete commitment” to make India corruption-free.
“Lokpal may not be a solution to all our problems but it is a step in the right direction,” Sule said, as she described the government’s bill as a “healthy baby”.
“It is a healthy baby but don’t make it obese by giving it more work than it can cope with,” she said.
