Kurukshetra, April 7 (IANS) The Haryana police Tuesday registered a case for violation of code of conduct against Congress MP and millionaire industrialist Naveen Jindal in this Haryana town following orders of the Election Commission.
Jindal has been booked under Section 3 of the Haryana Defacement of Public Property Act. He has been accused of unauthorisedly putting up pole hoardings on the Shahbad-Pipli road in this district.
Jindal is the sitting Congress MP from the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency and is seeking re-election.
The opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) had complained to the poll panel against the illegal hoardings put up by Jindal as part of his campaign.
The case was registered by the police following a complaint by the assistant returning officer of the seat.
In a related development, the Haryana government Tuesday replaced controversial Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula (adjoining Chandigarh) R.K. Kataria following election related complaints.
Kataria, who is the son-in-law of Haryana state Congress president Phool Chand Mullana, was accused of favouring the ruling Congress in his jurisdiction.
Mullana’s hoarding was put up at the religious festival of Navratras at the famous Mata Mansa Devi shrine last week.
Kataria has been replaced by Pankaj Yadav, a Haryana government spokesman said here.
