Nov 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The first female house speaker Nancy Pelosi is all set to end the leadership fight for the number two slot in the new House minority. She has decided to come into a consensus in order to end the fight. According to the compromise, Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, will become the Democratic whip. This would be the number two spot in the new democratic minority. On the other hand, a new third ranking leadership post will be created for South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, and thereby, he would end his bid for that particular post.
The title and the portfolio of this new post is yet to be determined. Ever since the Democrats became the minority party, they lost their authority to be the speaker. This left James Clyburn and Steny Hoyer fight for the House minority whip position. This consensus would retain the position of Rep. John Larson of Connecticut as the Democratic caucus chairman, while Rep. Xavier Becerra will continue to serve as the vice chair of the Democratic caucus. Last week, James Clyburn was talking about maintaining the diversity of leadership. He feels that this deal would definitely sustain the required diversity.
This last decision was highly appreciated by the Nancy Pelosi’s supporters, who would step down from the position of speaker in January to once again take up the position of a Democrat leader. His position will be resumed by Rep. John Boehner, when the Republicans start taking control of the House. The 31 female lawmakers wrote that although Nancy Pelosi has faced unfair criticism and attacks from the opponents, her accomplishment speaks for itself especially to the women.
