Naidu demands Andhra governor’s resignation over ’sex scandal’
December 25th, 2009 - 7:50 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Hyderabad, Dec 25 (IANS) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu Friday demanded the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Governor N.D. Tiwari over an alleged sex scandal involving him.
Naidu said Tiwari should resign or the central government should sack him for bringing shame to the “sacred office of the governor”. The former chief minister also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the scandal as some MPs were also allegedly involved.
Naidu’s demand at a news conference came after a private Telugu news channel showed explicit footage purportedly of 85-year-old Tiwari in bed with three young women.
“Everybody is feeling ashamed after seeing this on television. This is a big sex scandal and it shows the falling values and ethics in public life,” said Naidu, the leader of opposition in the state assembly.
“Offices like Raj Bhavan are the temples of democracy and it is very unfortunate that such things are happening there,” Naidu said.
Aftr the ABN channel owned by Telugu daily Andhra Jyothi Friday aired the clips for a couple of hours, the Andhra Pradesh High Court, acting on a public suit, issued an injunction against showing the pictures.
The channel quoted Radhika, a woman from Uttaranchal, as saying that she sent the young women to the Raj Bhavan on Tiwari’s request through his aide.
The woman said she was exposing the governor as he failed to provide her an iron ore mining licence in Andhra Pradesh.
The governor’s office was not immediately available for comment.
