Muslims need political awareness: Mahmood Madni

- New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS) Instead of launching a political party, the Muslims must become politically aware and vote for those who work for their welfare, Maulana Mahmood Madni, general secretary of Jamiat-Ulema-i-Hind said Friday.
“I think that for Muslims the best way to get their due share in development and growth of the country is to become politically aware and vote for those who work for them. Launching a political party is not the solution,” Madni told IANS.
Madni, a Rajya Sabha MP said that the challenges facing the community will be discussed and debated intensively at the the three-day convention of over 10,000 Muslim clerics at Deoband beginning Nov 1.
Madni also said that there will be intensive debates on issues like the Central Madrassa Board, implementation of the Sachar Committee report on the state of Muslims in India and the framing of false cases against Muslim youth in terrorism-related incidents.
The conference is also expected to pass a resolution seeking a ban on “unnatural sex” and against the Delhi High Court’s recent nod to homosexuality.
International issues such as Palestine and US intervention in Afghanistan will also be discussed.
