Mulayam’s apology to Muslims a gimmick: Mayawati
July 15th, 2010 - 11:15 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, July 15 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Thursday termed as a “political gimmick” her rival and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s public apology to Muslims for associating with former BJP leader Kalyan Singh before the 2007 state assembly polls.
“The apology was nothing more than a political gimmick being played by Mulayam, whose game was to simply misguide and mislead the Muslim community,” Mayawati said in a statement issued here.
“Mulayam has thoroughly exposed himself as an opportunist and I do not think he is going to succeed with this new political stunt that he was trying to win over Muslims, who are not going to trust him at all now,” she added.
Mayawati further alleged that the Samajwadi Party supremo’s “association with communal people is not new and Kalyan singh’s case was not the only time he aligned with such forces. I am sure they will not allow themselves to be used by him any longer.”
