Mulayam quotes Kalam to say n-deal in national interestJuly 3rd, 2008 - 10:17 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, July 3 (IANS) Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav quoted former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to say that the nuclear deal was in India’s interest as the party veered around to supporting the Manmohan Singh government in its political standoff with its Communist allies that has put a question mark on the government’s future. “Abdul Kalam told us the nuclear treaty is in the interest of the nation,” Yadav told newspersons Thursday. He added: “Without the interest of the nation there is no politics.”
Earlier in the day, the Samajwadi Party, the main constituent of the United National Progressive Alliance, had said after a meeting of third front that it would consult scientists and experts to get their view on the nuclear deal.
“We will have to consult our partners in the UNPA before we announce our decision,” Yadav said.
