Mulayam alleges Mayawati targeting party workersJune 9th, 2008 - 10:16 pm ICT by IANS
Lucknow, June 9 (IANS) Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav Monday said he would himself take to the streets to protest against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati targeting his party’s workers. He said the party’s acting state unit president Shivpal Singh Yadav would visit Pratapgarh on Wednesday where Samajwadi Party leaders close to independent legislator Raghuraj Pratap Singh - more commonly known as Raja Bhaiya - had been framed under the Gangsters Act. Yadav would be accompanied by party leaders.
Mulayam Singh told reporters at his residence Monday evening that he would himself tour Ferozabad June 16 where “the UP police has committed atrocities on Gujjars.”
He said another team of leaders would on Wednesday visit Maharajganj in eastern Uttar Pradesh where a police constable had been shot dead by supporters of Minister of State for Fisheries Jamuna Nishad in his presence Saturday night. Nishad was sacked by Mayawati later.
The team would be led by Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Council, Ahmad Hassan, and it would inquire into the circumstances leading to the constable’s death, he said.
