Belfast, Jan 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The former member of Parliament, Iris Robinson, will have her finances looked into, as per the reports given out by the police department of Belfast. The organized crime branch of the Belfast police department, which specially deals in financial inquiries of a relatively complex nature, will be charged with the investigation of the crime. The investigation will be carried out with the aim of establishing whether any sort of criminal activity had indeed been committed by the DUP Strangford member of Parliament.
Apparently, she had been involved in some shady money deals with two property developers. She had been accused of taking about 50,000 pounds, in order to help her young lover, a 19-year-old boy, get started with his business. She had failed to register the fact that she had taken the money, and when the matter came into the notice of her husband, Peter Robinson, who is the first minister of North Ireland, he too did not notify the authorities. After it was declared that the investigation would be carried out, Peter Robinson claimed to be free of guilt, and have handed in temporary resignation as a sign of his innocence.
Iris Robinson too has stepped down from office, and has also given up her membership of the Stormont Assembly. The police department has issued in a statement, that had been broadcast in a program in BBC, that the investigation will be carried out as discreetly as possible, taking care not to cause any harm to the human rights of any of the people involved, but that it will aim at solving the case. The statement made it clear that the police would not be commenting any more on the case.
