More than 30 million viewers watch Obama speech at Tucson memorial
January 15th, 2011 - 1:07 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattWashington DC, Jan 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Television rating company, Nielsen, has reported that more than 30 million Americans tuned in to watch President Obama address the nation after the Arizona massacre.
A heavily divided nation came together to listen to the president speech on Wednesday. The president’s speech was most crucial because it was seen as an opportunity to bring back a highly divided country together. The speech was highly praised and the president’s approval rating soared primarily due to the fact that he avoided the blame game.
The Tucson shooting last Saturday was bloody. Six people including a very vibrant 9-year-old girl and a federal judge were killed. President Obama described 12-year-old Christina-Taylor Green as “a young girl who was just becoming aware of our democracy, just beginning to understand the obligations of citizenship.”
The attack also left congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords and twelve others seriously injured.
Giffords is making progress with her recovery. Doctors that are operating on her reported that she was able to communicate with her on Thursday. The doctors said that the development indicates that though Giffords still remain in critical condition, her recovery is some a matter of time away.
