New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS) The Congress Thursday alleged that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s office monitored the tampering of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in panchayat elections in the state and urged the Election Commission to order a probe.
“Our Gujarat Congress leaders have caught the machine magic of Modi. The monitoring was being done from the Chief Minister’s office. The state election commission and the Election Commission should take cognisance of it and probe the matter,” Congress spokesman Mohan Prakash said here.
Prakash, who released copies of letters written by Gujarat Congress general secretary Girish Parmar to the State Election Commission, said that discrepancies in an electronic voting machine had been noticed during polling for the panchayat elections in Baroda district.
“People noticed that whatever button they pressed, the vote was going to the BJP. Fortyfour votes had been cast but when the machine was brought to zero, it showed 110 votes,” Prakash said.
