Narendra Modi Ahmedabad, May 1 (IANS) As the curtains dropped on the celebrations of Gujarat’s golden jubilee here Sunday, Chief Minister Narendra Modi used the formal platform to attack his detractors.

“Every constitutional authority in this country is being misused to carry out oppression on me. Let them try to do that. I will not budge nor kneel to all such forces,” he said, fist raised and voice rising to a crescendo before a packed stadium of cheering supporters.

“A vicious attempt is on to malign me but I will continue to work for the development of the state.

“A target Modi campaign has been going on relentlessly, even during the state’s golden jubilee celebrations..even the celebration year of the state has not been spared. Such forces rather than contribute to the development of the state have been working against it,” Modi added.

Modi’s statement comes in the backdrop of the Congress boycott of the closing ceremony and within a fortnight of police officer Sanjiv Bhatt filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging Modi’s complicity in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

“Punish them politically. Such enemies of Gujarat should not be tolerated and defeated politically,” he said.
