Militants, Maoists thrived during Digvijay rule: Minister

Bhopal, Jan 13 (IANS) Countering Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s charge linking the Madhya Pradesh government with Hindu terror activists, state Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta Thursday alleged that the state became a haven for militants and Maoists when Singh was the chief minister.”During the tenure of Digvijay Singh, militants and Naxals made Madhya Pradesh their shelter. Wherever they performed terror acts, they had links with Madhya Pradesh,” Gupta told reporters here.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh from 1993 to 2003. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ruling the state since then.
In recent times, most of the right-wing terrorists who got arrested had connections with Madhya Pradesh. Singh has targeted the BJP government in the state over this and said that Madhya Pradesh police were hiding right-wing terrorists in the state. He has demanded that all terror-related cases should be handed over to the National Investigation Agency.
On Thursday, Gupta said during the former chief minister’s tenure the militants and Maoists had Madhya Pradesh links.
“We have curbed the jehadi activities in the state and controlled Naxal activity too in our tenure,” the home minister added.
