Washington DC, June 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tea party darling Michele Bachmann has been accused of using taxpayers’ money to fund an event which has been described as a political rally. The newspaper Roll Call reported that Bachmann used funds from the taxpayer-funded account of the US House of reps to pay for the equipments used during a tea party rally. The US laws prohibits the use of state funds for political rallies and campaigns.

The amount was $3,400 but Bachmann’s office denies using the funds for a political rally. Her aides explained that the event was a press conference and not a political event as it is being reported. Critics say no questions were received during the event and Bachmann who was the main speaker at the event used the opportunity to criticize President Barack Obama.

The famous quote from the event was when Bachmann said that, “The president promised the African-American community, he promised the Hispanic community, that he would make their lives better… He’s failing the Hispanic community. He is failing the African-American community. He’s failing all of us.”

Bachmann is seen as a potential presidential candidate for the Republicans in their bid to wrestle power from President Obama in 2012. Several other names have come up in the race to determine who challenges President Obama in the Presidential election next year.
