steeleCapitol Hill, March 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Michael Steele, the Republican National Chairman had strongly criticized the racial abuses that some unknown people in the Saturday’s Tea Party rally have allegedly hurled at the black lawmakers while they were heading towards the Capitol Hill for procedural vote for the Health Care bill. The alleged incident has also been criticized by one of the organizers of the Tea Party rally.

The incident occurred on Saturday when the Tea Party supporters took to street to protest against the health care bill. The rally was held at the Capitol Hill and was joined by thousands of protesters. A group of protesters from the rally allegedly targeted a group of black Congressmen and a black lawmaker and harassed them. According to the Democratic Whip Jim Cylburn’s spokeswoman Kristie Greco, a protester had spit on the black members of the congress who was later escorted to the Capitol by the police. Jim Cylburn has reportedly condemned the incident and said that the incident is “absolutely shocking”.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele on Sunday, during an interview said that though he agrees with the remark of House Minority Leader John Boehner who labeled that the alleged incident is “reprehensible”, the former feels that the incident in no way comes in the way of the Tea Party’s movement. He mentioned that the alleged incident which took place on Saturday, does not represent the whole tea party movement or its agendas. Michael Steele also said that the comments made by some “stupid” people at the rally cannot threaten the movement which is being carried out keeping in mind the anxiety of Americans over the health care bill.
